Ron Charles wrote about literature and reviewed books for The Washington Post from 2005 until February 2026 when the paper eliminated its books and sports divisions. 

He has since continued writing on his Substack page.

Ron Charles Rated Left in July 2026 AllSides Independent Review

In July 2026, an AllSides team member reviewed Substack posts from Ron Charles and assigned an initial Media Bias Rating of Left.

Charles' content is almost exclusively opinion, therefore it is inherently biased by the nature of the form. The reviewer noted that in politically-themed content Charles was consistently and deeply critical of the Trump administration and conservatives. Charles often went without offering counterpoints to his opinions, or publishing separate opinions that criticized Democrats.
