Recapping Ramaswamy's CNN Town Hall

Entrepreneur and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy took the stage to discuss several key issues during a town hall event on CNN Wednesday night.

Abortion Access: Ramaswamy said the Supreme Court should overturn the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of the abortion pill mifepristone, arguing "that the FDA exceeded its statutory authority in using an emergency approval to approve something that doesn’t fit Congress’s criteria for what actually counts as an emergency approval." 

Immigration: "I do believe that anybody who is in this country illegally needs to be returned to their country of origin," Ramaswamy said, adding that it's key to solving "not only the border crisis but the abandonment of the rule of law in this country."

Ukraine: Ramaswamy said U.S. involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war "isn't advancing our interests," and said he'd support a treaty that allows "Ukraine to come out with sovereignty intact" while making "some territorial concessions of the Russian-speaking regions in eastern Ukraine."

January 6: "The reality is we know that there were federal law enforcement agents" among the Jan. 6 rioters, Ramaswamy said, suggesting the riot was "an inside job" and featured government "entrapment" of participants. CNN host Abby Philip said "there is no evidence" of federal agents being among the rioters.

How the Media Covered it: Left-rated outlets often highlighted Ramaswamy's Jan. 6 remarks and framed them as a baseless conspiracy theory. Right-rated outlets often mentioned that exchange while focusing more broadly on the topics Ramaswamy discussed.
