Fact Checking Harris' MSNBC Interview 

Vice President Kamala Harris spoke with Stephanie Ruhle in her first 1-on-1 interview since becoming the Democratic nominee. 

The Details: Harris spoke about economic policy, immigration, and abortion. Ruhle and fact checkers on the left and right added context to Harris' claim that former President Trump "left us with the worst economy since the Great Depression," noting that unemployment was high due to shutdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic.

How the Right Covered It: Breitbart (Right bias) highlighted that, by Ruhle's own measure, Harris did not answer the question when asked regarding expanding the child tax credit and offering down payment assistance, “If you can’t raise corporate taxes, or if the GOP takes control of the senate, where do you get the money to do that? Do you still go forward with those plans and borrow?” 

How the Left Covered It: Politifact (Lean Left) added that Harris said she would tackle price gouging, but economists are skeptical that price gouging is a driver of inflation. It also fact checked a comment about Trump's stance on abortion that was taken out of context. Politifact included moments where Harris was correct as well, noting that Trump did help kill a bipartisan border security bill and expanding on Harris' statement about Trump having a "comfortable upbringing."
