Do Voters Want a Rematch Between Biden and Trump in 2024?

Summary from the AllSides News Team

With a potential rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump in 2024 coming into focus, outlets across the spectrum are highlighting dissatisfaction among voters regarding the most prominent candidates from the major parties.

Neither Biden Nor Trump: A Reuters/Ipsos poll found a majority of voters polled do not want a rematch between Biden and Trump. 44% of registered Democrat respondents do not want Biden to run for reelection, and 34% of registered Republican respondents do not want Trump to run for reelection.

“Wise To Line Up”: CNN Opinion (Left Bias) contributor Jill Filipovic lamented the prospect of Biden obtaining the Democratic nomination without a progressive challenger, which she determined to be an important factor in the 2020 race leading the historically moderate Biden to embrace certain progressive policies, but determined the prospect of a second Trump term was enough to rally Democrats behind an incumbent candidate that “isn’t all that inspiring,” arguing, “Democrats who care more about the nation than about power are wise to line up behind Biden.”

“Anything Can Happen”: Wall Street Journal Opinion (Lean Right Bias) Columnist Peggy Noonan described fatigue among the American electorate as an unavoidable factor in the 2024 races, predicting the race will feature “pushback and little rebellions.” Noonan highlighted Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a potential surprise competitor in the Democratic primary race, and didn’t rule out the possibility of a third-party candidate making an impact, determining, “we are living in a prolonged crazy time in American politics. Anything can happen now.”
