A senior US diplomat rejected Hungary’s arguments that the country’s landlocked status left it no choice but to rely on Russian oil, as Washington raises pressure on Budapest to find alternative suppliers.
“There’s a lot of planning that our friends in Hungary should do and we’re going to help them obviously, as a good ally, to make those plans and execute them to get them off of Russian oil and gas,” US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said in a Fox News interview on Sunday.
