The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed early Tuesday after being hit by a container ship, sending cars plunging into the water in what was quickly declared a mass-casualty event.
Horrifying footage shows the bridge crumbling after the Dali, a Singapore-based vessel heading to Sri Lanka, crashed into the central part of the structure around 1:40 a.m.
The steel arches instantly tumbled into the Patapsco River, with several vehicles lost, including one the size of a tractor-trailer.
