What a "Center" Rating Means

Sources with an AllSides Media Bias Rating of Center either do not show much predictable media bias, display a balance of articles with left and right biases, or equally balance left and right perspectives.

Center doesn't mean better! A Center media bias rating does not necessarily mean a source is totally unbiased, neutral, perfectly reasonable, or credible, just as Left and Right don't necessarily mean extreme, wrong, unreasonable, or not credible. AllSides encourages people to read outlets across the political spectrum.

July 2021 Editorial Review: Center Bias 

The Dispatch Fact Check has a Center bias rating, according to a July 2021 Small Group Editorial Review by AllSides editors on the left, center, and right. 

The Dispatch Fact Check is a section of The Dispatch, a digital news website founded in 2019. We determined the fact check section had a media bias rating different from the overall website, and thus we rated it separately. 

The Dispatch Fact Check displayed balanced story choice, as it fact-checked the right and left equally. It was also consistent in citing its sources and rarely used partisan language. This evidence suggested a Center bias rating.

As of September 2024, people have voted on the AllSides Media Bias Rating for The Dispatch Fact Check. On average, those who disagree with our rating think this source has a Center bias.

As of September 2024, AllSides has medium confidence in our Center rating for The Dispatch Fact Check. Additional Information

The Dispatch Fact Check’s stated goal is “to identify and correct errors of fact, misstatements, misinformation and outright disinformation”  because they are a “detriment of our national discourse.” 

It receives its fact-check suggestions from staff and readers. It also recognizes that sometimes “one ‘side’ of the political spectrum is more in the news than others” and makes an effort to keep its page balanced.

The Dispatch Fact Check is a signatory to the code of principles set forth by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), created by Poynter.
