New Disclosures Claim Rep. Ilhan Omar's Husband Made Less Than $1000 in 2025

Financial disclosures filed May 13 claims that Rep. Ilhan Omar's (D-MN) husband Tim Mynett only made between $200 to $1,000, a vast change from an earlier filing claiming to be worth between $6 million and $30 million.

Blindspot: At the time of writing, there were no outlets on the left covering the newest financial disclosures.

The Filing: The most recent filing showed the couple's net worth at negative $80,000 to $95,000, claiming the total value of assets was between $20,000 and $125,000 for 2025, and their credit card and student-loan debt between $30,000 and $100,000. A winery that was previously valued between $1 million and $5 million was updated to show a value of "none" and her husband's venture capital advisory firm had its value also reduced to nothing.

Head-Scratching Financial Disclosure: Outlets on the right and center tended to highlight the earlier financial disclosure reporting "sudden ballooning wealth—from close to nothing to between $5 million and $30 million." The New York Post (Right bias) said the "head-scratching financial disclosure" sparked "intense public scrutiny." According to the New York Post article, "scandal-scarred Rep. Ilhan Omar and her hubby have gone from the penthouse to the poorhouse."

"Doesn't Pass The Smell Test": The Washington Examiner (Lean Right) highlighted a statement from a senior staffer for Omar's office saying that the previous correction was done because the numbers reflected the full value of the two firms rather than the valuation of her husband's individual shares in them. According to the article, Omar herself has used this explanation, saying her husband is one of "several partners" in the business ventures. The Washington Examiner points out, however, that California business registration records "show that Mynett is one of only two individuals listed as members of eStCru's [winery] corporate leadership," also mentioning that the other individual is a former Democratic operative named William Hailer. The article highlighted statements from Rep. Kristin Robbins (R-MN) saying "How can she go from being extremely wealthy to saying, 'It was all an error, and actually I'm not wealthy,' it defies common sense." Robbins added, "For her to have this honestly astonishing swing in her records with no explanation, it doesn't pass the smell test."

"Somali Fraudsters": Many outlets, like the Washington Examiner and The Washington Free Beacon (Right) pointed to the reporting irregularities being a cause for "intensified criticism" over her alleged connections to "Somali fraudsters in her congressional district."

Just Making It Up: The Washington Free Beacon asked, "Is she [Omar] just making it up as she goes along?" The article explained that the claims showing the two companies are "worthless" and only provided "as little as $200" in income for 2025 "are contradicted by his (Mynett) own accountants." Paul Kamenar of the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) said "She can't keep her story straight," adding that "There needs to be a full audit to straighten this out."
