Biden Calls For Peaceful Protests After Daunte Wright Shooting

On Monday, President Joe Biden called for calm in the aftermath of a fatal police shooting of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old black man, in Minneapolis; this comes shortly after the Minneapolis police chief said he believed the officer involved mistakenly used a gun instead of a Taser. Biden told reporters Monday that while he believes peaceful protest is understandable, "there is absolutely no justification" for violence and looting. He added, "we should listen to Daunte's mom who is calling for peace and calm." Biden then said that whether it was an accident or on purpose "remains to be determined by a full-blown investigation." Police responded to protests Sunday with riot gear and tear gas and chemical agents as protestors gathered in Brooklyn Center and threw projectiles. About 20 business in the area were broken into, while some of them were looted; 500 National Guard troops were deployed to Minneapolis on Monday.
