Videos Show CA Democrat Katie Porter Attempt to Cut CBS Interview Short, Curse Out Staffer

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Democratic California gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter is facing criticism after she attempted to cut an interview short with CBS News’ (Lean Left bias) California affiliate, and Politico (Lean Left) shared a video of her telling a staffer in 2021, “Get out of my f*****g shot.”

CBS Interview: The interview video surfaced on October 7. Porter was being interviewed by CBS News’ Julie Watts, who, in the video. Watts asked, “What do you say to the 40% of CA voters, who you'll need in order to win, who voted for Trump?” Porter, visibly annoyed, replied, “How would I need them in order to win, ma'am?” before turning and laughing at the camera. Watts continued to pose the question in different ways, and Porter eventually said, “I don’t want to keep doing this. I’m gonna call it.” She said she didn’t wish to continue the interview “with seven follow-ups to every single question.” Watts replied, “Every other candidate has answered our follow-ups.” Porter replied, “I don’t care.” Watts wrote in coverage for CBS on October 9 that Porter “ultimately stayed and continued answering questions.”

2021 Video: After the interview video went viral, several media outlets across the spectrum highlighted a video Politico shared on October 8, where Porter was on a video call for a webinar and told a staffer who appeared in the background, “Get out of my f*****g shot.” The staffer said she wanted to correct a wrong claim Porter made regarding electric vehicles.

For Context: Porter is viewed as the frontrunner to replace California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is eyeing a presidential run, and formerly served as a US House representative from 2019 to 2025. She also has a reported history of involvement with domestic abuse. Porter’s ex-husband, Matthew Hoffman, claimed in 2013 divorce records that she would verbally and physically abuse him. In December 2024, she was granted a restraining order against an ex-boyfriend, claiming she received “persistent abuse and harassment” from him.
