Gavin Newsom's Former Chief of Staff Indicted on Fraud and Corruption Charges

Dana Williamson, former chief of staff to Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA), has been indicted on fraud and corruption charges.

The Details: On Wednesday, Williamson, 53, was charged on 23 federal counts, including filing false tax returns, conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, defrauding the United States, obstructing justice, and lying to authorities. According to court documents, she conspired to divert almost $225,000 from a dormant political campaign to an associate's personal use. If convicted, Williamson could face up to 20 years in prison for the 18 bank and wire fraud charges and up to $250,000 in fines. Her alleged tax crime carries a maximum penalty of $100,000. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
