Saudi Arabia Sentences Five to Death for Murder of Journalist Jamal Khashoggi

Saudi Arabia's deputy public prosecutor announced Monday that five people had been sentenced to death for the October 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Khashoggi was a Washington Post columnist and native Saudi Arabian whose work was often critical of the Saudi government; he was allegedly set up by the Saudi government and killed at the consulate by government agents. Most reporting focused on the fact that Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and members of his inner circle were cleared of wrongdoing in the killing, despite CIA intelligence which found that bin Salman personally ordered the assassination.
