US Lawmakers Name Six Men Previously Redacted in Epstein Files

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Representatives Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) publicly identified six individuals whose names had been redacted in Epstein files on Monday.

The Details: The representatives suggested these men were being protected by the redactions, claiming they were "likely incriminated" by the records. The names include Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, CEO of DPWorld, and Leslie Wexner, former Victoria's Secret owner and co-founder of Bath & Body Works. Others were Salvatore Nuara, Zurab Mikeladze, Leonic Leonov and Nicola Caputo. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) also accused the Justice Department (DOJ) of being in "cover-up mode" after it released the names of victims, which he called "a deliberate threat" to others thinking of coming forward. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche responded that the DOJ "just redacted all non-victim names from the document" and the department "is committed to transparency." Monday was the first day lawmakers could view the unredacted files.

Other Findings: Several outlets quotedย Raskin saying the files mentioned "15-year-old girls, 14-year-old girls, 10-year-old girls" and that it was "preposterous and scandalous." Reports from CNN (Lean Left bias) and Axios (Lean Left) also mentioned Massie indicated he didn't see Trump listed as a potential co-conspirator, while Raskin said Trump's name came up "more than a million times." According to CNN, Raskin predicted it would take lawmakers seven and a half years to review all of the documents if there were members at all four of the computers set up to view the files.ย

How the Media Covered It: Outlets on the Right, including Just the News (Lean Right) and Washington Examiner (Lean Right), generally emphasized the details shared by Massie and Khanna, including the social standing of the men named, and calls for accountability. The New York Post (Lean Right) highlighted the reported ages of victims, calling the disclosures a "sickening revelation." Outlets from the left, including CNN, Axios and The Guardian (Left) covered Raskin's findings more heavily compared to outlets from the right. The Guardian and Axios reported on Trump's appearance in the redacted files from 2009. In their headlines, The Post led with a Republican lawmaker threatening to expose the names, while The Guardian led with a Democrat.
