‘Freedom Convoy’ Blocks Busiest US-Canada Border Crossing
Summary from the AllSides News Team
As Canadian truck drivers continued to protest in Ottawa, some trucks and private vehicles blocked traffic across the busiest border crossing between the U.S. and Canada.
Starting Monday evening, the “Freedom Convoy” protesters prevented traffic from entering Canada across the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario. The blockade caused traffic to back up in Michigan, including many trucks bound for Canada. Another blockade at a border crossing in Coutts, Alberta was cleared by Tuesday morning. On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted that while the truckers had the “right to protest,” they did not have the right to “blockade our economy, or our democracy.” Additionally, some Canadian officials warned of “potential foreign interference” after GOP officials from U.S. states said they would investigate GoFundMe’s decision to refund Freedom Convoy donations.
Coverage was widespread across the spectrum on Tuesday. Some coverage from all sides discussed how the blockade could exacerbate supply chain disruptions.
