Summary from the AllSides News Team
Vice President Kamala Harris joined CNN (Lean Left) host Anderson Cooper for a town hall television program on Wednesday, drawing media fact checks.
For Context: Voices across the spectrum cast Harris’ performance negatively. CNN anchor Dana Bash criticized Harris for not offering enough concrete answers. Forbes (Center bias) criticized Harris for deflecting, while Newsweek (Center bias) said she took a “bruising.”
From the Left: Harris said she previously “pledged that (she) would not ban fracking” during the 2020 presidential campaign. CNN Fact Check (Left bias) concluded this is “false” and “Harris did not make her personal position on fracking clear during her only debate in 2020.” CNN also wrote that when Harris claimed Trump, as president, “gave tax cuts to the richest, to billionaires and big corporations,” it needed context. CNN added, “While the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which Harris is referencing, benefited the rich far more than others, it did reduce taxes for most people, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.”
From the Right: Harris referred to a comment reported in an October 22 article published by Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic (Left bias) that cited anonymous sources as saying Trump once said, “I need the kind of generals that Hitler had.” The Daily Signal (Right bias) added that Trump spokesman Alex Pfeiffer told The Atlantic, “Trump never said this.” Harris also said Trump described military members as “suckers and losers” which originated from anonymous sources in another article by Goldberg for The Atlantic in 2020. The Daily Signal wrote, “Trump has consistently disputed the reports.”
