Gas prices increased by about $1 in one month after the Iran war began, both nationally and in Maine.
The war in Iran began on Feb. 28. According to AAA, Maine's average price for a gallon of regular gasoline went from $2.92 on March 2 to $3.90 on April 1 — an increase of $0.98.
On April 2, AAA reported that the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline had reached a four-year high of $4.08, up $1.08 from a month earlier. The last time the national average gas price exceeded $4 a gallon was in August 2022.
