Details

The New York Times fact check section has a Lean Left bias, according to a July 2021 Small Group Editorial Review by AllSides editors on the left, center, and right.

The New York Times’  fact-checking section was mostly written by author Linda Qiu, who previously worked for Politifact. (AllSides rates Politifact separately).

An editorial review by AllSides staff in July 2021 found NYT’s fact-checking segment aligned with the New York Times’ overall rating of Lean Left because they showed some favor toward left-wing ideas, though they did sometimes fact check both sides. As part of that review, at least one AllSides staff member argued that the fact-check section may deserve a Left rating because the Times tended to review right-leaning ideas and former President Donald Trump more than people or ideas on the left.
