Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is reportedly seeking access to an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) system containing sensitive taxpayer information.

The Details: DOGE continues to investigate what it considers U.S. government waste, fraud, and abuse, now focusing on the IRS and its Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS). The IDRS contains sensitive information on taxpayers, such as Social Security numbers, bank account information, addresses, tax returns, as well as some other personal identifying data.

For Context: Access is expected to be granted to Gavin Kliger, a software engineer working under DOGE with the proper security clearances needed for information systems such as this. At the time of writing, access has yet to be granted.
