Throwback Tulsa: Oklahoma native Mickey Mantle becomes a New York Yankee 73 years ago today
Mantle was born in Spavinaw and graduated from Commerce High School before hitting the major leagues.
When he retired on March 1, 1969, he was the Yankees all-time leader in games played with 2,401, which was broken by Derek Jeter on Aug. 29, 2011.
