Who was Robert Mueller?
As FBI director, Mueller transformed the nation's premier law enforcement agency into a terrorism‑fighting force after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, according to The Associated Press. He led the bureau for 12 years, serving under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
Mueller later served as special counsel for the Department of Justice, investigating ties between Russia and President Trump's 2016 campaign.
