Earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude slams NY metropolitan area, New Jersey

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake was felt across the tri-state area Friday with tremors being felt across the five boroughs and New Jersey, multiple people reported.
Tremors could also be felt across the Eastern Seaboard as far away as Schenectady, N.Y., Connecticut and Pennsylvania, where it shook dishware knocked over figurines and rattled household fixtures.
The U.S. Geological Survey said that the preliminary magnitude of 4.7 occurred near Lebanon, New Jersey. The FDNY were responding to emergency calls througout the five boroughs, but there were no initial reports of damage.
Aftershocks were possible, a spokeswoman for the agency said.
Gov. Hochul confirmed that the quake “hit west of Manhattan and has been felt throughout New York” on X.
“My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day,” she wrote.
