Colleagues and friends of the late former first lady Rosalynn Carter flocked to social media on Sunday to share their condolences.

Carter died at the age of 96 after 77 years of marriage to her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, 99. Her death followed the introduction of hospice care in her home earlier this week.

"Former first lady Rosalynn Carter has just passed," first lady Jill Biden announced at a "Friendsgiving" meal with service members in Virginia. "She was well-known for her efforts on mental health and caregiving and women's rights."
