A driver was arrested after a truck crashed into security barriers outside the White House on Monday night, a Secret Service spokesman said.
The incident happened shortly before 10 p.m. ET, when a box truck collided with barriers on Lafayette Square, Anthony Guglielmi said.
Images published by Reuters appeared to show a Nazi flag featuring the swastika on the ground near the truck.
Video of the incident, posted on social media, appeared to show a U-Haul rental truck attempting to ram into the barriers on the north side of the White House. A preliminary investigation had found that the driver “may have intentionally struck the security barriers,” Guglielmi said.
The driver was detained and the truck later deemed safe by police, he added. There were no injuries to any Secret Service or White House personnel.
