Jan. 6 hearings, Day 8 live updates: DC cop says Trump was in ‘heated discussion’ about going to the Capitol

As his supporters began to breach the grounds of the Capitol, former President Trump was on the phone with unspecified senators, his former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany told Jan. 6 investigators. 

It was unknown which lawmakers he called because the White House call log was empty, investigators said.

Trump also spent four minutes on the phone with his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani as he watched Fox News, according to the panel.

During his call with the former New York mayor, a Fox correspondent recounted how an Air Force veteran told him former Vice President Mike Pence should stop the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral win, even though it was unconstitutional.

Luria says that Trump returned to the White House from the "Stop the Steal" rally on the Ellipse and was told "about a riot at the Capitol" at around 1:25 p.m.

"Within 15 minutes of leaving the [Ellipse] stage, President Trump knew that the Capitol was besieged and under attack," Luria says.

She adds that White House records indicate "no official record of President Trump receiving or placing a call between 1106 a.m. and 6:54 p.m.
