This Abridge News topic aggregates four unique arguments on different sides of the debate. Here are the quick facts to get you started:

THE QUICK FACTS

  • Earlier this month, former Senate staffer Tara Reade publicly accused presidential candidate Joe Biden of sexually assaulting her in 1993. The Biden campaign released a statement denying the allegations, saying they "absolutely did not happen."
  • Two of Reade's former contacts, a neighbor and a colleague, have said that Reade discussed the incident with them in the mid 90's. Furthermore, records exist of a woman, who Reade says is her mother, calling in to "Larry King Live" in August 1993 to ask what her daughter could do about her "problems" regarding a "prominent senator" other than going to the press.
  • Last year, Reade and seven other women accused Biden of kissing, hugging, or touching them in ways that made them feel uncomfortable. Biden acknowledged the complaints, said his actions were benign, and promised to be more "mindful and respectful" of personal space.
  • Reade's accusation sparked comparisons to Christine Blasey Ford's accusations against Brett Kavanaugh, in which Blasey Ford said Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her when they were 15 and 17 years old. Kavanaugh outright denied the accusation, which was supported by four sworn affidavits saying Blasey Ford mentioned the incident in 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017.
