New Report on Brett Kavanaugh Reopens Debate About Supreme Court Justice

Political sparring over Justice Brett Kavanaugh ’s October 2018 confirmation to the Supreme Court flared up Sunday following a fresh news report, with some Democratic presidential candidates calling for his removal from the bench and President Trump defending his court pick.

The New York Times on Sunday published an article about Deborah Ramirez, who had accused Justice Kavanaugh of exposing himself to her during a party at Yale University in the early 1980s. The piece, based on a book planned for publication this week, asserts that others including fellow classmates recalled hearing contemporary accounts of the incident and alleges there might have been another similar episode.

The Times later issued an editor’s note and updated the story to say that the female student in the second episode declined to be interviewed and said that her friends said she doesn’t recall the episode.

The Wall Street Journal hasn’t independently confirmed the reporting. Justice Kavanaugh has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct.
