America’s 1st Freedom Rated Lean Right in June 2022 Independent Review
An AllSides June 2022 Independent Review returned an initial bias rating of Lean Right for America’s 1st Freedom. America’s 1st Freedom is transparent about its bias, describing its intent to provide news on the “latest anti-gun schemes.” America’s 1st Freedom is a publication of the National Rifle Association of America (NRA), a gun rights advocacy group.
American Rifleman, another NRA publication, describes America’s 1st Freedom as an “avenue for top NRA leaders to present the truth about legislative battles.” The publication is in favor of the Second Amendment, constitutional carry, and other gun rights. The Editor-in-Chief, Frank Miniter, is a conservative author and journalist who has collaborated with David Kopel, a gun rights activist and contributing editor. Miniter has also written several articles for America’s 1st Freedom criticizing liberal views on gun control and regularly contributes to Fox News in favor of Second Amendment rights.
The reviewer noted content critical of both President Biden’s view on gun control and a gun control bill introduced by Nancy Pelosi. The reviewer also noted instances of bias through opinion stated as fact in many articles. All articles are categorized as “News” even though they contain opinionated language, such as an article about the Founding Fathers, federal gun control, and media misinformation.
