Tech Entrepreneur Arrested in SF Stabbing of Cash App Founder Bob Lee

San Francisco police arrested self-described “IT consultant/entrepreneur” Nima Momeni Thursday morning for allegedly fatally stabbing Cash App founder Bob Lee in San Francisco on April 4. 

The Details: Police said Lee and the suspect knew each other, but no additional details were released. “This has nothing to do with San Francisco,” San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott said, instead attributing the alleged murder to “human nature.” 

For Context: The stabbing initially led many, particularly in right-rated media, to link the incident to rising crime in U.S. cities. On April 5, Twitter owner Elon Musk responded to the news by tweeting, “Violent crime in SF is horrific and even if attackers are caught, they are often released immediately.” Some coverage from the right highlighted stabbing-related criticisms of CNN (Left bias) and San Francisco’s Democratic mayor. Discussing the arrest on Thursday, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins criticized what she called “reckless and irresponsible statements” connecting Lee’s stabbing to the crime narrative.

Job Title Confusion: Momeni, 38, reportedly runs an outsourcing firm called Expand IT. However, news coverage often struggled to describe his occupation, calling him a “tech executive,” a “tech worker,” an “IT professional,” an “entrepreneur,” a “tech founder,” and more.

Some coverage from the left highlighted that Lee knew the suspect; the Los Angeles Times (Lean Left bias) noted that this made Lee similar to “most homicide victims in the United States.” Coverage from the right was less likely to include Jenkins’ remarks.
