As Riots Persist, Public Ponders Their Effectiveness

Protests and demonstrations continued to devolve into chaos throughout the U.S. Friday night, as people took to the streets to oppose the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd. Floyd died after being forcefully restrained by a now-former police officer who's been charged with third-degree murder. The riots involved arson, looting and physical violence in several large U.S. cities. Some left-rated voices said the riots and violence were an inevitable consequence of insufficient police reforms and purportedly systemic racism in U.S. criminal justice. Some right-rated voices expressed support for the right to protest, but lamented violent rioters and criticized local leadership and law enforcement for purportedly enabling the unrest.
