Summary from the AllSides News Team
Democrats made gains across several voter demographic groups this midterm election, including young voters, Hispanic voters and young white men. These groups previously helped President Trump win the presidency in 2024.
The Details: The Associated Press (Lean Left bias) AP Voter Poll surveyed over 100,000 voters nationwide. It compared their 2026 votes for the US House to their support for Trump and former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024. Here's what it found:
Youth Vote: In 2026, 70% of voters under 30-years-old supported Democratic candidates in their local US House races compared to roughly 30% who supported Republicans. In 2024, young voters were nearly split between Trump (47%) and former Vice President Kamala Harris (51%).
Hispanic Voters: Sixty-four percent of Hispanic voters supported Democratic candidates in 2026 compared to roughly 40% of Hispanic voters who supported Trump in 2024. The Hill (Center) wrote that in 2024, Trump winning 44% of Latino voters "represented the best performance of a GOP presidential nominee with Latino voters since at least 2004." It pointed to the "controversial immigration enforcement actions" taken by the Trump administration which it said cost them the Latino vote this cycle.

Young White Men Shift Left: A CNN (Lean Left) exit poll found that Democrats won young white men by 17 points. The Post Millennial (Right) cited a poll that found young white men shifted 25 points toward Democrats. Trump won the same demographic by 28 points in 2024. In an opinion for The Daily Wire (Right), Matt Walsh (Right) wrote, "In other words, in just two years, the Republicans have completely alienated one of the major demographics that their policies were supposed to help." He described the loss as "a stunning failure" and it "illustrates [a] deeper problem" that "Republicans still won't speak to white men, or acknowledge them as a group, except to cast them as the villains."
