A retired St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department captain was shot and killed early Tuesday morning while protecting a friend's pawn shop from looters, according to authorities and the victim's wife.
The retired captain, David Dorn, was responding to an alarm at Lee Pawn and Jewelry Store around 2:30 a.m. when he was shot and killed, police said.
No arrests have been made, and police Chief John Hayden, Jr. said officers are "actively working on identifying suspects."

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A retired police captain who died during a night of violent protests was trying to protect his friend’s pawn shop, his widow said.
David Dorn’s last moments were caught on video and apparently posted on Facebook Live, though the video has since been taken down. He was killed by people who had broken into Lee’s Pawn & Jewelry, and his body found on the sidewalk at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. No arrests have been made.

In video that has since been removed, Dorn, 77, can be seen defending the business during his last moments of life.
