Two Jail Guards Indicted in Connection with Jeffrey Epstein's Death

Two federal corrections officers were charged Tuesday with conspiracy and falsifying records in connection to Jeffrey Epstein's death. The officers, who were allegedly working feet from Epstein's cell when he died yet did not conduct routine prisoner checks, rejected a plea deal last week.

Many reporting outlets also focused coverage on statements from Federal Bureau of Prisons Director Kathleen Hawk Sawyer, who said the FBI is considering the possible role of a "criminal enterprise" in the convicted sex offender's death.

Two correctional officers who were assigned to guard Jeffrey Epstein on the night he was found dead in his cell of an apparent suicide have been indicted on criminal charges, federal prosecutors in New York announced Tuesday.

Authorities have charged Michael Thomas and Tova Noel with making false records and conspiracy. The two worked as jail guards at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, a federal jail in Manhattan that's mostly used for defendants awaiting trial.

Two federal workers who were on duty the night Jeffrey Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail were charged on Tuesday with failing to check on him every half-hour as they were supposed to and then lying about it on prison documents.

Two prison guards who were on duty during the night Jeffrey Epstein killed himself have been taken into custody Tuesday on federal charges linked to their alleged failure to check on his wellbeing.

The guards, identified as Tova Noel and Michael Thomas, have been charged with making false records and conspiring to make false records and to defraud the United States by impairing the lawful functions of the Metropolitan Correctional Center, the New York facility where Epstein was found dead on Aug. 10, prosecutors announced.
