SCOTUS Punts Decision on Oregon Wedding Cake Case

Washington (CNN)The Supreme Court on Monday wiped away a ruling that went against a bakery in Oregon that refused to make a cake to celebrate the wedding for a same-sex couple.

The justices sent back the case pitting religious liberty concerns against LGBTQ rights to the lower courts for further consideration in light of last term's ruling in favor of a Colorado baker who refused to make a cake for a same-sex couple.

The Supreme Court on Monday sent back to a lower court a case involving an Oregon bakery whose owners claim the state drove them out of business after they refused to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple.

In an order, the top court scrapped a ruling from the Oregon Court of Appeals in favor of the same-sex couple. The bakery’s owners, who refused to make the cake due to religious beliefs, said state fines pushed them out of business.
