Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, said the British royal family had mistreated them in an interview with Oprah Winfrey released Sunday night. Meghan said she had contemplated suicide but was told she could not seek inpatient care because it “wouldn’t be good for the institution.” The couple also said that they were asked how dark their son’s skin would be, “in tandem” with a decision not to grant him security or a title. Other allegations included that the royal family had cut them off financially after January 2020 and that it had failed to defend Meghan from tabloid stories despite protecting other family members. Meghan also denied recent allegations that she bullied her staff.

Coverage in right-rated outlets was generally more critical and focused on Meghan’s positions on social issues.
