Congress goes home after just 7 workdays since summer break ended — and won't be back until after midterms

Members of Congress are heading back home.

The House of Representatives canceled votes planned for Thursday, opting to kick off the final campaign sprint to the midterm elections after working just seven days since returning from summer break Aug. 31.

The early exit allows GOP leadership to avoid a politically dicey vote on whether to impeach Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and ignore a push from more than 100 Democrats to address the risks posed by artificial intelligence.
