Who Has Resigned Over Their Ties to Epstein?

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Since the release of thousands of Epstein-related documents, several prominent figures have either spoken out, resigned from their positions or been arrested.

Bill Gates: On Tuesday, Bill Gates apologized to his staff at a Gates Foundation town hall over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Wall Street Journal (Center bias) quoted Gates saying, "It was a huge mistake to spend time with Epstein…I did nothing illicit. I saw nothing illicit." Gates also admitted to having affairs with a Russian bridge player and Russian nuclear physicist. He also said his ex-wife Melinda French Gates "was always kind of skeptical about the Epstein thing" when they were married.

Borge Brende: Borge Brende, the chief executive and president of the World Economic Forum resigned on Thursday after an independent investigation into his ties to Epstein. Reuters (Center) reported Brende had previously attended three business dinners with Epstein and had communicated with Epstein over email and text. Daily Caller (Right) noted one text exchange in 2019 where Epstein appeared to send Brende a photo of a woman he referred to as "mss piggy."

In the UK: Former Prince Andrew and Peter Mandelson, former UK ambassador to the US, were both arrested over their ties to Epstein. Mandelson was released on bail, according to Associated Press (Left). It wrote both Mandelson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor are suspected of improperly passing UK government information to Epstein, and called the arrests "some of the most dramatic fallout" from the released documents.

Higher Education: Former president of Harvard Larry Summers resigned from his academic and faculty positions at Harvard at the end of the academic year. Harvard math professor Martin Nowak was also put on leave over his ties to Epstein, according to the New York Post (Lean Right). The outlet noted Nowak was "once dubbed Epstein's 'inside man' at the university." Dr. Richard Axel, a Nobel Prize-winning professor at Columbia University, announced his resignation on Tuesday. Time (Lean Left) wrote Axel and Epstein had exchanged several emails over the years, including plans to meet up. The Guardian (Left) reported Bard College has also opened an "independent review" into President Leon Botstein's connection to Epstein.

Other Figures: CBS News contributor Peter Attia resigned from his position at the outlet on Monday. Former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-NE) resigned from the board of Monolight, a clean energy startup, last Friday. Thomas Pritzker, Hyatt Hotels heir, resigned from his executive chairman position on Feb. 16. Kathy Ruemmler, Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel at Goldman Sachs, announced her resignation effective June 30. Chairman and CEO of DP World Limited, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, also resigned after documents showed a yearling friendship that continued after Epstein's 2008 conviction, according to Time.
