Trump Special Counsel Nominee Scrutinized Over Controversial Theories, Racial Remarks

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Paul Ingrassia, President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Office of Special Counsel (OSC), has shared social media posts about unproven 9/11 theories, Holocaust denials, and other controversial ideas. The OSC investigates government corruption accusations and protects whistleblowers.

Controversial Theories: As reported by CNN (Lean Left bias), on September 11, 2024, Ingrassia shared a video on X from Alex Jones accusing the US government of planning the 9/11 attacks. He has also shared posts from Nick Fuentes, who CNN calls a “notorious White nationalist and Holocaust denier.”

Remarks on Race: Ingrassia made posts on X mocking former governor Nikki Haley’s (R-SC) full name, Nimarata Randhawa, questioning why “we allow ourselves to get lectured by” someone with that name. The Epoch Times (Lean Right) also noted Ingrassia’s “theory” that Haley was not born in the US and therefore not eligible to become president, which CNN clarified is untrue. In a conversation about education reform on a livestream video, Ingrassia said, “You’d be focused on…elevating the high IQ section of your demographics. So, you know, basically young men, straight White men, in particular, would have to be the focus.”

Antisemitism: The Hill (Center) included a letter from two Democratic representatives noting Ingrassia’s “close associations with antisemitic extremists,” such as Nick Fuentes and the anonymous X account Chief Trumpster. CNN also quoted a tweet from his podcast’s since-deleted X account, which said, “Stop shilling for Israel, @GOP.”

Alignment With Trump: Though the OSC was designed to be politically independent, CNN characterized Ingrassia as having “fervent loyalty to Trump.” Ingrassia shared an article calling for Trump to invoke martial law in order to stay in office after the 2020 election; he also publicly defended the January 6 participants.

Democrats urge spiking of Trump watchdog nominee who would ‘traumatize’ workforce

Two Democratic committee leaders are urging the Senate to reject the nomination of Paul Ingrassia to lead a top whistleblower office, calling him “unfit” for the role and arguing he would help the Trump administration “traumatize the federal workforce and consolidate unchecked power.”

Ingrassia, a former podcast host, was nominated last month to lead the Office of the Special Counsel (OSC). He has come under fire for a series of controversial remarks about Jan. 6, 2021, as well as his praise for other right-wing figures.

The man President Donald Trump wants to put in charge of protecting whistleblowers – and rooting out government corruption – is a 30-year-old lawyer with barely a year of government experience and a history of racist invective, conspiratorial rants, and affinity for a well-known White nationalist and Holocaust denier.

Paul Ingrassia, whom Trump nominated in late May to lead the Office of Special Counsel, brands himself as “President Trump’s favorite writer” after Trump shared his comments close to 100 times last year on social media.
