Trump Criticizes GOP Senator for Calling 2020 Election Fair

Summary from the AllSides News Team

In a Sunday interview with ABC News (Lean Left), Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) said the 2020 election was “fair.” On Monday, former President Donald Trump criticized Rounds, calling him a “jerk” and a “RINO” (Republican In Name Only).

“While there were some irregularities, there were none of the irregularities which would have risen to the point where they would have changed the vote outcome in a single state,” Rounds said, adding, “The election was fair, as fair as we have seen. We simply did not win the election, as Republicans, for the presidency.” In Trump’s response, the former president said, “‘Senator’ Mike Rounds of the Great State of South Dakota just went woke on the Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 ... Is he crazy or just stupid?” Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) defended Rounds on Monday, saying, “Mike Rounds speaks truth knowing that our Republic depends upon it.”

Outlets across the spectrum covered this story, with certain outlets like CNN (Left) and Washington Examiner (Lean Right) featuring it more prominently on homepages. Some left-rated outlets published opinions about the story. Left-rated outlets were more likely to specify that Trump's election fraud claims were false.

Former President Trump on Monday tore into Sen. Mike Rounds after the South Dakota Republican rejected Trump’s baseless claims about the 2020 presidential election.

“Is he crazy or just stupid?” Trump said in the statement. “The numbers are conclusive, and the fraudulent and irregular votes are massive. The only reason he did this is because...
