Summary from the AllSides News Team
In the wake of the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) handling of immigration enforcement in Minnesota, media perspectives have emerged on whether DHS Secretary Kristi Noem should be dismissed from her post.
'Needs To Go': The New York Times Opinion (Left bias) published an "online conversation" with three of its opinion columnists, Lydia Polgreen, David French (Lean Right), and Michelle Goldberg (Left), titled "'Kristi Noem Needs to Go.' Three Columnists on ICE in Minneapolis." In the conversation, Noem was mentioned by name twice. Goldberg noted a remark from conservative commentator Erick Erickson, who said Noem had "marginalized" border czar Tom Homan in favor of Border Patrol head Greg Bovino because he enjoys street confrontations. Polgreen said, "I think Noem needs to go, but then whoever replaces her could be even worse."
Minimize Visibility: Jeffrey Blehar (Lean Right) of National Review (Right) commented on the optics and politics of the situation in Minnesota. He said, "Any hope of Trump's presidency clawing its way out of the hole it has dug for itself begins with firing Kristi Noem… Preferably out of a rocket, and into the sun. Damage control is needed, and she is the most visible avatar of damage." Blehar concluded that Noem should at least be demoted, and become the "least visible" member of the administration so Trump can "bank a win" by "acknowledging that you have been let down by one of your subordinates, and restore public confidence."
'Political Grandstanding': Joseph Chalfant of Townhall (Right) accused Democrats of playing politics, noting that "a litany of leftist politicians have come out of the woodwork to call for Noem's impeachment on social media." Chalfant claimed there is "growing support for Trump administration immigration policy" amid "continued violence from leftist agitators" and argued "the move to impeach Noem seems likely to backfire on Democrats."

Matthew Rose: On Saturday, agents from the border patrol in Minneapolis shot and killed Alex Pretti, an American citizen. We don't have a full accounting of what happened, but the available video evidence shows he was filming the agents with his phone, as many locals have done since the full weight of federal immigration enforcement descended on the city.

I don't need to explain to you what happened over the weekend in Minneapolis, though on the off chance you've been sheltering underneath a rock for the last two days, I will. Amid the ongoing anti-ICE/CBP protests in the Twin Cities, a protester named Alex Pretti was gunned down by Border Patrol authorities. Pretti was legally carrying a concealed weapon while filming federal authorities on the street. After trying to help a woman shoved by an officer, he was forced to the ground and disarmed (he did not reach for...

In the wake of the fatal self-defense shooting of Alex Pretti, Democrats have wasted no time in attempting to spin the narrative for their political grandstanding. Amid the chaos, the leftists have found a new favorite target: Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
