Louisville Police Declare State of Emergency In Preparation for Breonna Taylor Case Decision

The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) declared it will operate under "state of emergency" rules ahead of a grand jury decision regarding the case of Breonna Taylor, an emergency medical technician who was shot by police during a raid at her apartment. LMPD Interim Police Chief Robert J. Schroeder issued an internal memorandum Monday; the rules, which stops all days off and vacation requests for LMPD officers until further notice so “the appropriate level of staffing” can be ensured, are to take effect immediately. Earlier this month, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said he would present Taylor's case before a grand jury, though he gave no timeline for the decision. Last week, Taylor's family led a rally outside of Cameron's office last week, demanding the arrest of officers involved in Taylor's death.
