Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) signaled on Tuesday that Democrats are prepared to block a GOP police reform bill.
Schumer, speaking from the Senate floor, sent his strongest warning yet that the Republican bill β spearheaded by Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.), the only Black GOP senator β will not advance and urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to back down.

The GOP Senate majority is set to vote on police reform legislation introduced by Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), also known as the JUSTICE Act. Senate Democrats signaled that they will block the legislation, claiming that the bill is βhalf-assedβ and does not reach far enough. The JUSTICE Act will ban the use of chokeholds, improve hiring practices and regulate βno-knockβ warrants, among other things, but does not include an explicit provision to end qualified immunity.
