House, Senate Democrats Call for Investigation of Barr, Durham

Four Democratic House committee chairs called for Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz to investigate Attorney General William Barr and U.S. Attorney John Durham for their investigation of the Trump-Russia investigators Friday; their request comes one day after Senate Democrats made the same request. Democrats claim Barr and Durham made several public comments on the investigation into the origins of the Russia probe that violate a DOJ policy and that several of his actions "appear to benefit President Trump politically." This requests come after Barr defended his intervention in the high-profile DOJ cases during an appearance in northern Virginia Wednesday; during the same appearance, Barr also made comments against state-issued coronavirus-related lockdown orders. Some coverage from the left tended to frame Barr's comments earlier this week as Barr attempting to "give a boost" to Trump's reelection campaign. Some voices from the right praised Barr for speaking up amid the backlash his comments received.
