Trump Admin to Remove 750K People from Obamacare Over Alleged Fraud

Vice President JD Vance announced Tuesday that the Trump administration is removing roughly 760,000 alleged fraudsters from the Affordable Care Act (ACA), commonly known as Obamacare.

Taxpayer Funds: According to officials, the government would save an estimated $2.2 billion after the cancellations. Vance during the address said "This is not about cutting anybody off from their benefits. It's about cutting off fraudsters from stealing from these programs." Vance added, "To put into context the amount of money that we're stopping from going to fraudsters today, $2.2 billion, the average American child receives about $4,000 in health care benefits every single year. That means that we are saving 550,000 American children's worth of healthcare that was going to fraudsters and now will go to the essential services for which it was meant to go."

"Intentionally Overlooked": Outlets on the right like The Center Square (Lean Right bias) and Fox News (Right) tended to highlight President Joe Biden and his administration. Fox News said, "Vance criticized the administration of former President Joe Biden for incentivizing Obamacare fraud," explaining that "the administration's incentives for brokers to enroll people in the program, combined with relaxed eligibility for the program, became the perfect recipe for rampant fraud." The Center Square article highlighted commentary from Federal Trade Commission chairman Andrew Ferguson saying, "the Biden administration intentionally overlooked program integrity requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic, which allowed fraud to continue unchecked."

"Potential Political Risk": Outlets on the left like The New York Times (Lean Left) and ABC News (Lean Left) tended to highlight the decline in Obamacare enrollment this year. Both outlets cited affordability issues, and the Times article mentioned that the rising cost for plans is "a potential political risk for Republicans heading into the midterm elections in which voters are worried about affordability and the cost of living." Meanwhile, ABC highlighted commentary from "a left-leaning group that advocates against cuts to the ACA" known as Protect Our Care, who called Vance's announcement "a distraction."
