Blue States and Counties Sue Trump Administration Over Religious Protections of Health Care Providers

Over 20 Blue States and counties have sued the Trump Administration over expanded protections of religious beliefs for healthcare workers and providers. This rule is scheduled to take effect on July 22nd, and has gotten backlash from Democrats and Democrat-leaning groups. The plaintiffs believe that the expansion of the rule could allow for a healthcare worker to not administer effective healthcare based on their religious beliefs. For instance, according to a New York lawsuit, a healthcare worker could deny a patient a measles vaccine during a measles outbreak, based on a sincerely held belief outside of medical science. Other procedures such as assisted suicide and abortions could also be denied to a patient based on religious or moral convictions, which are reasonably and strictly held.
