White House Releases Details of Biden’s $2.2 Trillion Infrastructure Plan

The White House on Wednesday released details of the "The American Jobs Plan," President Joe Biden’s proposal for infrastructure investment and tax reform. The plan, which would spend roughly $2.2 trillion over the next 8 years, includes fixing roads and bridges, expanding broadband internet access and investing in America's manufacturing sector, as well as providing affordable housing and home-based care for the elderly and disabled. The plan would also raise the corporate tax rate to 28%, close loopholes and tax multinationals’ overseas earnings. The White House briefed lawmakers on the proposal on Tuesday. Biden is expected to formally unveil the plan in a Wednesday afternoon speech in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Coverage in left-rated outlets was more likely to highlight the poor state of American infrastructure, often including images of roads and bridges. Coverage in right-rated outlets tended to focus on the tax hikes. While left-rated outlets tended to report the White House's stated "about $2 trillion" figure, right-rated outlets tended to report a higher $2.25 trillion figure. Combined, the individual spending proposals add up to $2.28 trillion.
