Hillary Clinton named Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia to be her running mate Friday, selecting a battleground-state politician with working-class roots and a fluency in Spanish, traits that she believes can bolster her chances to defeat Donald J. Trump in November.
Mrs. Clintonβs choice, which she announced via text message to supporters, came after her advisers spent months poring over potential vice-presidential candidates who could lift the Democratic ticket in an unpredictable race against Mr. Trump.
Sen. Tim Kaine, who on Friday became Hillary Clinton's vice presidential pick may not be the pick many American liberals would make, and Republican nominee Donald Trump was quick Saturday to try driving a wedge on Twitter between the two sides of the Democratic Party.

Itβs officially Tim Kaine.
Hillary Clinton announced today that Sen. Tim Kaine will be her presidential running-mate, pushing the mild-mannered Virginian into a glaring national spotlight. "I'm thrilled to tell you this first: I've chosen Sen. Tim Kaine as my running mate. Welcome him to our team," the former Secretary of State said in a text to her supporters.
Kaine, a former governor and current senator, was the safe choice for the cautious Democratic nomineeβbut that doesn't mean he won't have an impact.
