Melania Trump Addresses Nation Over Alleged Epstein Ties

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Melania Trump on Thursday spoke from the White House, rebuking allegations linking her to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

The Statements: Melania, during her roughly six-minute-long speech, asserted that "The lies linking me with the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein need to end today." She added that "The individuals lying about me are devoid of ethical standards, humility, and respect. I do not object to their ignorance, but rather, I reject their mean-spirited attempts to defame my reputation." Melania emphasized that her name never appeared in any of the released Epstein documents, and denied that she was introduced by Epstein to President Donald Trump as some rumors have alleged. The First Lady also called for a public hearing with the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein.

Email To Maxwell: Melania also spent time addressing an email she sent to the convicted partner of Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, in 2002 which did appear in the Epstein files. The email, in which Melania addressed Maxwell by saying "Dear G," praised a story about her that was run by New York Magazine (Left bias), saying Maxwell looked "great on the picture." Melania also acknowledged that Maxwell was "very busy flying all over the world," but asked for her to call when back in New York. Maxwell replied, calling Melania "Sweet pea," and saying "sadly" she won't have time to see Melania but will try to call. Melania said the email was nothing "more than a trivial note" and Trump said it "cannot be categorized as anything more than casual correspondence."

Bipartisan Support: Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) said on X, "When Melania Trump speaks with such grace and poise, the world listens. Justice for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein." Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) agreed with Melania's call for a public hearing, saying "We encourage Chairman Comer to respond to the First Lady's request and schedule a public hearing immediately."

How The Media Covered It: MS Now (Left) highlighted that Trump did not know about his wife's statements beforehand, noting that someone not authorized to speak publicly told the outlet "that many White House staffers were caught off guard." An opinion writer for The Bulwark (Left) highlighted that Melania's focus was on herself, adding that "Left unsaid, but not unimplied, was that none of these claims could be made about her husband." Fox News (Right) framed Melania's speech around the "bipartisan support" she received from lawmakers.
