Navy, President Trump At Odds Over Eddie Gallagher's SEAL Designation

Summary from the AllSides News Team

The United States Navy announced Thursday that it's moving forward with a review and possible removal of Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher from the Navy SEALs, despite opposition from President Donald Trump. In July, Gallagher was acquitted of murdering a wounded prisoner of war, but was convicted of posing with the prisoner's corpse in Iraq in 2017. The Navy is deciding whether or not to remove Gallagher's Trident Pin, the official membership pin of the SEALs; President Trump told the Navy to cancel its planned demotion of Gallagher from chief petty officer to petty officer first class last Friday.
