Acting AG Todd Blanche Says No More Epstein Files to be Released

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche sat down for interviews with both Fox News (Right bias) and NBC News (Lean Left) this week, addressing the Justice Department's (DOJ) handling of the Epstein files.

NBC Interview: "We have produced every single relevant document that has anything to do with the Epstein files," Blanche told NBC's Laura Jarrett during an extended interview. "And we had to redact a lot of that because the law requires it. And we have invited Congress to come and look at unredacted versions of every single unredacted document… Some have taken advantage of that; some have not."

Jarrett highlighted the ongoing confusion surrounding the case, to which Blanche replied, "We've never said case closed," and any new information will result in further investigations. He asserted there are no new cases to build from the available 6 million documents (about 3.5 million of which have been publicly released) and pivoted to the DOJ's work prosecuting "more sex predators in just 14 months than the last administration had done in almost three years."

For Context: The House Oversight Committee subpoenaed then-Attorney General Pam Bondi to testify about the Epstein files in March. President Donald Trump fired Bondi in early April, and she failed to appear for her deposition last week. The Hill (Center) highlighted reports that the DOJ withheld about 30 documents related to Trump. Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) asserted, "Per our subpoena it's illegal to withhold [the unreleased files]." Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) said, "Congratulations AG Blanche. Now you have 30 days to release the rest of the files before becoming criminally liable for failure to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act."

Epstein Files Transparency Act: The act, which Congress passed in November, "requires the DOJ to publish all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials in DOJ's possession that relate to the investigation and prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein… DOJ is permitted to withhold certain information such as the personal information of victims and materials that would jeopardize an active federal investigation."

How The Media Covered It: News media across the political spectrum highlighted continuous contention surrounding the Epstein case, with The New Republic (Left) calling Blanche's defense of the DOJ "facetious at best." New York Post (Lean Right) highlighted criticisms of Bondi from both Democratic and Republican lawmakers.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche was adamant Tuesday that the Justice Department has "released everything" it has on late sex predator Jeffrey Epstein, as the top House Oversight Committee Democrat threatened to hold former AG Pam Bondi in contempt for declining to testify about the files.

"We have released everything. We are not sitting on a single piece of paper. If we didn't release it, it's because it was not responsive to the law," Blanche, 51, told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" of the DOJ's obligation under the Epstein Files Transparency...
