Trump Confirms Bondi's Removal as AG

Summary from the AllSides News Team

President Donald Trump confirmed the removal of Pam Bondi as Attorney General on Thursday.

Trump's Statement: Trump in a Truth Social post said "Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900. We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected Legal Mind, Todd Blanche, will step in to serve as Acting Attorney General.

For Context: Bondi is the second of Trump's cabinet members fired in recently, with former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem being replaced by Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) on March 31. According to reports, Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lee Zeldin, among others, are being considered for the Attorney General role.

Significant Obstacles: CNN (Lean Left bias) said that "Bondi had run into significant obstacles in carrying out Trump's desired retribution campaign," adding though it "was not always for lack of trying." The Wall Street Journal (Center) said Bondi's yearlong tenure was "marked by failed efforts to prosecute his [Trump's] favored targets and a view by the president and his advisers that she mismanaged the Jeffrey Epstein scandal." According to the Wall Street Journal, "Bondi oversaw the firings and forced departures of scores of prosecutors and other employees who investigated Trump" and "even placed a large banner of Trump's face on the outside of the Justice Department." Trump, the article added, "nevertheless privately complained for months about her."

"A Fighter Who Understands": One America News Network (Right) highlighted Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who will be stepping into the role of Acting Attorney General immediately. The article quoted an anonymous White House official saying, "Todd is a fighter who understands exactly what this administration needs to accomplish." The article also noted that Blanche "came under attack from left-wing activists after his CPAC appearance, where he championed the use of federal agents to safeguard polling sites for the 2026 midterms." Β The article added that "Democrats β€” who continue to insist that widespread voter fraud is a myth β€” were quick to condemn the proposal."

Will Bondi Be Deposed: The House Oversight also formally subpoenaed Bondi to testify over the Department of Justice's (DOJ) handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, with the hearing set to take place April 18. It is unclear whether Bondi will still be required to testify. Daily Mail (Lean Right) highlighted an X post from Democrat ranking member Robert Garcia (CA) saying Β "Pam Bondi and Donald Trump may think her firing gets her out of testifying to the Oversight Committee. They are wrong - and we look forward to hearing from her under oath." Β One America News Network, conversely said that the task of testifying will "likely fall to her predecessor."
